Authorities have confirmed that the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk was tracked to a nearby neighborhood shortly after the fatal shooting at Utah Valley University. Despite a swift response from local, state, and federal law enforcement, the suspect managed to vanish before capture.
Investigators say the shooter—described as wearing dark clothing and possibly firing from a rooftop—was seen fleeing the area bordering the campus. Officers conducted door-to-door searches and reviewed grainy security footage, but the trail went cold.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “We are working multiple active crime scenes and analyzing all available evidence. The subject initially taken into custody has been released after interrogation. Our investigation continues in the interest of transparency”.
The manhunt has now entered its second day, with U.S. Marshals and the Utah Department of Public Safety joining the search. Officials have not released the suspect’s identity or motive, but Utah Governor Spencer Cox has called the shooting a “political assassination” and vowed accountability.
