Marriage Under Saul: When the State Replaces God

Inspired by the Andrew Wilson vs CGA Debate on Covenant vs Control

๐Ÿง  Intro: The Covenant Hijack

Coach Greg Adams once said, “There is no God in marriage.” At first glance, it sounds cynical. But look deeper—it’s prophetic. Not because God abandoned marriage, but because the state replaced Him. Like Saul, the state inserted itself into sacred territory, rewriting covenant into contract, and obedience into performance.

๐Ÿ“œ Saul’s Disobedience: A Symbolic Blueprint

Saul was anointed by God. He had the crown, the army, the authority. But he disobeyed. He offered sacrifices without permission. He spared what God told him to destroy. He governed based on emotion, not instruction. And for that, God rejected him—not for lack of power, but for substituting obedience with control.

Now apply that to marriage.

๐Ÿ›️ The State as Saul

The state was never ordained to govern covenant. Its role was to protect rights—not redefine roles. But like Saul, it blurred the sacred lines. It inserted:

  • No-fault divorce: Exit without accountability.

  • Custody bias: Default allegiance to the mother.

  • Alimony mandates: Financial punishment for legacy investment.

  • 911 overrides: Narrative control before facts are verified.

The state became the officiant, the judge, and the executioner. And just like Saul, it performs authority without divine alignment.

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Church’s Complicity

Andrew Wilson believes the church can apply social pressure to keep marriages intact. But today’s churches?

  • Appease emotion over order

  • Hold allegiance to the wife, not the household structure

  • Preach harmony, not hierarchy

The preacher often mirrors the emotional needs of the congregation—especially the women who fund and fuel the church’s social engine. Biblical household order is either ignored, softened, or punished. The church has become a moral echo chamber, not a covenant enforcer.

๐Ÿงจ The Result: A Marriage Without God

  • The man enters with sincerity.

  • The woman enters with backend incentives.

  • The preacher blesses it.

  • The state enforces it.

  • And God? He’s no longer invited.

“You can’t serve two masters—and modern marriage serves the state.”

๐Ÿงญ Legacy Response: Reclaiming Spiritual Sovereignty

Men must:

  • Vet the system, not just the woman.

  • Reject Saul’s model—performance without obedience.

  • Build covenant outside institutional control.

This means:

  • Loving with eyes open.

  • Refusing to fall in love blindly.

  • Recognizing when morality is used as leverage, not conviction.

๐ŸŽ™️ Closing Riff: From Saul to Sovereignty

If Saul couldn’t govern worship without disobeying God, why do we trust the state to govern marriage?

“Covenant without clarity is just a contract with a kill switch. And if God isn’t the architect, legacy will collapse.”
